I created Thalassa Designs Art to showcase my passion for environmental artwork featuring beloved endangered animals to promote awareness while financially supporting reputable cetacean sanctuaries that provide a natural seawater habitat for rescued marrine mammals.
My ultimate goal is to create an Orca Sanctuary where orcas, which have spent decades in environments akin to bathtubs, can instead live in a much bigger enclosures. Unfortunately, these magnificent animals cannot return to the wild due to the effects of captivity. However, they will have a more suitable home that replicates their natural habitat, allowing them to spend the rest of their lives in a better environment.

The vaquita, a small porpoise native to the northern part of the Gulf of California, is currently the most endangered cetacean in the world. With their population dwindling to an alarming estimate of just around 10 individuals, the fate of this remarkable species hangs in the balance. Their extinction is imminent unless there is a comprehensive and strictly enforced ban on gillnet fishing across their entire habitat.
I had never heard of the vaquita until a few days ago, but learning about its plight has sparked a profound artistic awakening for me. The beauty and urgency of their situation have inspired a new direction in my art, pushing me to explore themes of conservation and the fragility of marine life.
